About Tanzania Clinical Trial Registry

Tanzania Clinical Trial Registry (TzCTR) is a platform or an online web driven database for registering clinical trials. Tanzania government under the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare through its agency Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA) strongly encourages clinical trials being conducted within the country to be registered. Clinical trials are conducted to allow safety and efficacy data to be collected for health interventions (e.g. drugs, diagnostics, devices, therapy protocols).

The goal of a TzCTR is to increase transparency and access to clinical trials, made available to the public. TzCTR is often searchable (for example, trials can be searchable by disease/indication, drug, location, etc.). Trials are registered by the pharmaceutical, biotech or medical device company (Sponsor) or by the hospital or foundation which is sponsoring the study, or by another organization.

TzCTR offers up-to-date information about clinical trials or researches for a wide range of diseases and conditions. A clinical trial or research is a research study in human volunteers to answer specific health questions. Interventional trials determine whether experimental treatments or new ways of using known therapies are safe and effective under controlled environments. Observational trials address health issues in large groups of people or populations in natural settings.

TzCTR currently contains “ ” trials sponsored by the government agencies, Institutes of Health, and private industry or company. Studies listed in the registry are conducted in all “ ” regions and in other countries.
