Food Safety
Directorate of Food Safety is
responsible for food inspection services, pre-makert evaluation and registration of food products and food establishments, food risk analysis, food import/export certification, product promotion control and execution of directorate specific projects and programs.
The
Directorate has three main departments: -
Food Inspection and Enforcement
`The department is providing the following services
(i) Registration and Licensing of food premises and registration.
(iii) Post marketing
product risk assessment.
Premises,
which do not meet the requirements, are not allowed to operate for
products regulated by the authority.
The department is conduct inspection to:
(i)
Ports of Entries (import control)
(ii) All
food manufacturing and processing premises
(iii) All
food packers
(iv) All
bakeries
(v) All
milling machines that process and package food)
(vi) Slaughter
houses
(vii) Super
markets that process and package food
(viii)Hotels
and restaurants that process and sell food.
Food Risk Analysis Department
This department is responsible for
(i) Assess Food Risk
(ii) Monitor food borne disease
(iii) Trace record(s) of food products from farm to table.
Food Evaluation and Registration Department
The department is responsible for
(i) Evaluate the quality and safety of food products and food supplements before marketing authorization
(ii) Prepare and review food products registration application and guidelines
(iii) Assess and authorize food promotion material
(iv) Register of pre-packaged food products and food supplements and maintenance of database and register of food.
