Guidelines for importation of pharmaceuticals
Sections 5
and 73 of the Tanzania Food, Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 2003 enable
the Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA) to regulate the
importation of drugs into the country.
There have
been irregularities in importation of products into Tanzania. To
minimize this problem, The Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority is
issuing importation guidelines to assist those currently importing
drugs into the country. They have the following objectives:
- to
provide importers of pharmaceuticals with necessary information
to enable them comply with the law and regulation governing
importation of drugs into Tanzania
- To inform
and educate importers and those anticipating to engage in drug
importation business on the importance of ensuring that imported
drugs meet quality standards
- To assist
in curbing quality irregularities often discovered in imported
drugs
