ORGANIZATION OF TFDA

In order to meet the anticipated challenges in offering its services, TFDA has organized itself (see organogram) on the following four layered structure with the following features:

At the top of the structure is the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, who is responsible for strategic issues with regards to the TFDA’s performance. She is advised by the Ministerial Advisory Board for which is a Chairperson.

DIRECTOR GENERAL
Mr. Hiiti B. Sillo.
The Director General is the overall Chief Executive of the organization. He is responsible for the day to day operations of the Authority. His office is comprised of the legal counsel, internal audit and Procurement Unit . These three offices are responsible for providing supportive services in areas not linked to any of the specialized directorates. Below the Director General are the four Directorates of TFDA:

Directorate of Medicines and Cosmetics
The Directorate is established to ensure that all drugs, herbal drugs, cosmetics and medical devices are correctly evaluated for quality, safety and effectiveness before being approved for use. The directorate is also responsible for inspection and enforcement of medicines, cosmetics and medical devices. It is also responsible for control of clinical trials and adverse drug reactions monitoring and evaluation.

The directorate is responsible for food inspection services, pre-market evaluation and registration of food products and food establishments, food risk analysis, food import and export certification and food promotion control.

Director of Laboratory Services
Ms. Charys N. Ugullum

The directorate is responsible for food inspection services, pre-market evaluation and registration of food products and food establishments, food risk analysis, food import and export certification and food promotion control.

Director of Business Support
Dr. Sikubwabo S. Ngendabanka
Directorate of Business Support
This Directorate is established to provide and enhance good management of TFDA’s resources and to give support to all technical operations of the Authority. It is also involved with development and implementation of public education programmes and Management information Systems.
     
     
 

Zones Offices
There are five TFDA-Zone offices that perform TFDA functions at zone level. These zone offices are Lake zone which is  located in Mwanza (Mwanza, Mara, Kagera and Shinyanga regions), Northern zone is located at Arusha ( Arusha, Manyara, Kilimanjaro and Tanga regions), Southern Highland located at Mbeya (Mbeya, Iringa, Rukwa and Ruvuma regions), Eastern Zone located at Dar es Salaam (Dar es salaam, Pwani and Morogoro) and Central Zone located at Dodoma (Dodoma and Singida)

NOTE: TFDA collaborates with the Regional and Local Authorities in enforcing the Food, Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 2003
